CompoNex: A Marketplace for Trading Software Components in Immature Markets

Component markets, which facilitate the exchange of components between sellers and buyers, are a key prerequisite for the emergence of reusedriven component-based software engineering. Subsequently, numerous market forecasts have prophesied component marketplaces to quickly evolve and gain in profitability. However, a long-term observation indicated a rather leisure development until today and proved that only very few marketplaces managed to successfully establish themselves. To investigate possible reasons, this paper analyzes the maturity of today’s component markets. Based on the analysis results, it devises critical success factors to counter identified immaturities and provides solutions to transform them into marketplace features.
